Getting your home Christmas-ready without the stress
Hey, it's Katie! I can't quite believe I'm saying it, but Christmas is just around the corner. Between school plays, present shopping and family descending, the last thing anyone wants is a mad panic clean the night before everyone arrives.
I've been there more times than I'd like to admit! So these days I spread the jobs out, and it makes December feel so much calmer. Here's how I do it.
Declutter before the new things arrive
Before the presents come in, the old things need somewhere to go. In early November I go through the toy boxes with my girls and we pick a few bits to donate. It clears space, and it's a lovely thing to do together before Christmas.
Pick one bigger job a week
Rather than trying to do everything at once, I choose one deeper job each week. The oven one week, the fridge the next, then the windows, then the spare room. By the time December arrives, the big stuff is already done.
Get the guest room ready early
Wash the spare bedding, clear the bedside tables and free up a drawer or a few hangers. Your guests will feel so welcome, and you won't be hunting for matching pillowcases on Christmas Eve.
Try a 15-minute evening reset
Once the decorations are up, a quick tidy before bed makes such a difference. Everyone grabs a basket and puts things back where they belong. The kids can absolutely help with this one. The dogs, sadly, cannot.
Plan for after Christmas too
Pine needles, glitter and wrapping paper absolutely everywhere. Booking a clean for the days after Christmas might just be the best present you give yourself.
A tidy space really does bring a tidy mind, and never more so than at Christmas. If you'd like us to take something off your list, whether that's a pre-Christmas deep clean or a fresh start in the new year, just drop me a message. December gets busy, so it's worth getting in touch early.
